Organised Scrapbooking for Beginners

Below you will find tips on helping to keep organised scrapbooking for beginners and event the most veteran scrapbooker.

1. Sort
Sort everything in to piles on the floor.  Sort scraps in to different colours and papers together. Identify what is important to you and what you really need and want to keep. Also what you use often and can’t do without. These last things can go on your desk, everything else can be put away neatly.

2. Give or get rid of
Decide what you don’t need and put in a box for charity, your children, or your scrapping class. Be firm. If you have too much stuff, it’s hard to find what you really want. Throw out anything broken, ripped beyond use, tiny bits of wool or paper you will never use, or half of an eyelet. You need to remove the clutter to allow you to see what you actually have and what you might need.

3. Decide
What do you need more of? Shelves? Drawers? Decide where to store your supplies. Make sure the location you pick is accessible and safe. If you decide to keep your stuff in a converted wardrobe, make sure you can’t hit your head or hurt yourself in other ways.  Put your most used supplies closest to you and your least used on the other side of the room or somewhere farther away.  You only want the bare minimum on your desk or otherwise it will get cluttered  again.

4. Put in containers
Make sure everything has a home. Your containers should be strong, sturdy, easy to handle and carry and the correct size.

5. Keep it up
Spend about 10 mins each day putting stuff back in its home and cleaning up your scrapping area.

Tips for quick pages
This is a great time saver and makes you more organised.
Choose your cardstock, photos and embellishments for 1 layout. Put them in a plastic page of your scrapbook album ready to be worked on.
Also, sketch on scrap paper what you want your layout to look like, cut your photos to the shape you want and put this in your plastic page with the paper.
Then, if you get some time, just dive in and start working. You don’t have to waste time going through boxes and sorting through photos because everything is ready.

Do all the little fiddly things together at the beginning and clean up the mess. Then when you have time for a quick crop, your pages will be ready and waiting to be glued into place.
